Communities
We need widespread support and participation to create change in our communities. Unique and powerful partnerships between local government, business leaders, and civic, non-profit, and faith-based organizations ensure communities are mobilized to increase safety by reducing sexual assault and domestic violence. In communities around the country, our work continues to bring people together to create new partnerships and paths that affect lasting, positive change.
THE PROGRAM
The Bystander Intervention Program for Communities incorporates (1) The Bystander Workshop, (2) The Overview Talk, and (3) Community Action Events. Each of these components are used to equip community members to do their part to increase safety and wellness for every person.
Bystander Intervention Training
The goal of the Bystander Workshop is to provide participants the skills they need to help ensure every person in their community is safe from sexual assault and domestic violence. The training uses a bystander framework to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to do their part.
Training options include face-to-face workshops, virtual workshops, and a Train the Trainer. Each training is tailored to the unique context of each community.
Booster Activities
Booster activities provide opportunities to strengthen bystander intervention skills learned in workshops. Examples of activities include (1) social marketing materials such as posters and banners and short activities that can be integrated across different contexts in the community. Community Mobilizing Initiatives are broader events used to bring the community together and create momentum toward change.
